Obituary for Guezell Rowland

Furrs—Guezell Smith Rowland, 87, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at the Sunshine Health Care Facility in Pontotoc. She was born February 18, 1930 in Pontotoc County, the daughter of Dan and Lula Belle Smith. She spent her life as a homemaker, taking care of the family she loved so dearly. Known as “Mamaw” by everyone, she enjoyed quilting, needlework and gardening. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Guezell was a longtime member of Furrs Baptist Church

Services will be 2 PM Friday at the Lee Memorial Chapel with her son, Bro. Dempsey Rowland, officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Guezell is survived by her 3 children, Bro. Dempsey Rowland (Yvonne) of Houston, Linda Burton (Mike) of Furrs, and Brenda West of Pontotoc; 2 sisters-in-law, Mavis Rowland of Hollywood, FL and Alfie Nichols of Mobile, AL; 10 grandchildren, Jamie Bland (Michael), Christie Poynor (Casey), Amy Williams (Donnie), Abbie Moreno (Vic), Amber Rowland, Andrew Rowland, Jeff Kesler (Hope), John Burton (Nikki), Leigh Ann Huffstatler (Mikey), and Stephanie Harris (Josh); 21 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Virgil Rowland; 2 sons, Danny A. Rowland and David Rowland; 2 sisters, Dorothy Jean Tidwell and Bobbie Jane Agnew; and 2 brothers, Alton Smith and Norris Smith

Her grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to share condolences and memories in this guest book.
