Obituary for Doris Robbins

Doris  Robbins
Doris Robbins, 86, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at the Leeper Greenhouse. She was born August 11, 1930 in Hodges, Alabama to Ira and Flora Pleasant. She moved to Tupelo in 1948 and lived in the dorm of the Tupelo Community Hospital, now North MS Medical Center, and trained to become the first lab tech at the hospital. She worked many years for Dr. P.K. Thomas, Dr. Walter Bourland and Dr. Eugene Murphey as their Lab Technician. She retired as office manager for Ob-Gyn Associates. After retirement, she taught kindergarten at Verona Elementary School and The Verona Methodist Church. She later owned her own ladies clothing store in Tupelo, The Clothes Closet. She also worked for Reed’s and McRea’s Department Stores. She and her husband were founding members of the Oak Ridge Christian Church. Her passions included interior designing and floral arranging which see said was her God given talent. She loved her family and the Christian Church.
Graveside services will be at 2 PM Friday, September 9, 2016, at Lee Memorial Park with Bro. James Marks officiating. Visitation will be from 1 – 2 at the funeral home. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include her children, Ken Robbins (Connie) of Saltillo and Renee Hughes (Scotty) of Mooreville; five grandchildren, Jason Sullivan, Tyler Robbins, Nowell Robbins, Jacob Hughes and Grace Hughes; one great-grandchild, Jagger Robbins; one sister, Becky Short (Jim) of Franklin, TN; one brother-in-law, Charles Elliott of Mooreville; one sister-in-law, Faye Robbins of Brewer; Special nieces and nephews and two very special neighbors, Judy and Phil Wheeler of Carr Vista Subdivision.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Robbins; one sister, Florine Elliott and one brother, Earl Pleasant.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Ridge Christian Church, Verona Christian Church or Oak Valley Christian Church.
